Visit to Jaén
Visit to Jaén
Jaén was one of the border towns between the Nazarite kingdom of Granada and the Christian kingdom of Jaen. It was an obliged crossroad for caravans, hence its original name (yayy). It possesses an Arabic, Jewish and Christian old quarter. A tour through the old part of the town of Jaén will show us the mix of architectural styles found in the capital. We will find squares such as la Plaza de San Francisco or la Plaza de Santa Maria. In this second mentioned square rises majestically la catedral de la Asunción. It is one of the most important cathedrals of Spain in the Renaissance style, designed by the great architect Andrés de Vandelvira and serve as a model for Spanish American cathedrals.
La calle Maestra, in which el Palacio del Condestrable Lucas de Iranzo is found, will be showing us the various neighborhoods of the capital: Barrio de San Juan with his church and splendid views of el Cerro and el castillo de Castle of Santa Catalina; Barrio de la Magdalena, the origin of the city, with the oldest church in the capital and one of the most popular legends, the one of “el lagarto de la Madalena”; Finally, we will also find el Palaci de Villardompardo that currently houses los Baños Árabes , Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares y Museo Naïf
